An off-broadway production brought to Amherst, this experimental theater piece explores the topic of gentrification in America (specifically the Harlem community) through spoken-word, song, dance and traditional theater methods. How do members of a community deal with gentrification? Can the gentrifiers ever be made aware of their status and contribute to the community? And maybe most importantly: what is the role of members of the community who have become gentrifiers? Humor makes this potentially difficult topic accessible and interesting, particularly to students of theater and sociology of all kinds.
